December 2015:?With the holiday season upon us, I hope you have a chance to enjoy time with loved ones and the opportunity to reflect on the year and things you are thankful for in your life. Working in the donation community offers a unique perspective on gratitude ? we are grateful for our partners who maximize the gift of donation, grateful for recipients who share their story and grateful for donor families who make an incredibly generous decision in a time of tragedy.

We recently had the opportunity to meet one of those amazing families, the Brockways. Garrett Brockway was an active, happy 10-year-old who loved being a big brother to his sister, Adeline. Whether he was playing sports, reading his favorite book or rattling off statistics for the St. Louis Cardinals, Garrett brought delight to all those around him. When he passed away in 2013, his family knew Garrett?s donation could help many people. Though the Brockways miss their joyful boy every day, they take comfort in the knowledge that Garrett?s passion for helping others lives on. The Brockways started Garrett?s Path, a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness for donation and making a positive difference in children?s lives. You can also visit their Facebook page to learn more about their wonderful work.

As we take in the season of gratitude, our thoughts are with all those touched by organ, eye and tissue donation. We remember the donors, celebrate the recipients and welcome the coming of a new year with a renewed sense of purpose and dedication to our life-changing work.

Thank you,
